Today I drove five hours to attend the funeral of a friend whom I very much admire, but am not close to.
When I got there, I was not too surprised that I didn't know any of the attendees. I was increasingly, uncomfortably,aware that the pictures they were showing of the deceased were not, in fact of my friend. A eulogy or two later, I was certain beyond doubt that I was at the funeral of someone with the same name and hometown of my friend, but whom I'd never met.
What an odd experience.
